It’s a special club that you would never want to be a part of but that you’re so grateful for when you find.
Finding other abuse survivors lets you know that you’re not alone. It gives you a sense of companionship that has never existed in all of the lonely years spent living in an abusive situation, or in the years following when you’re trying to heal. People who haven’t been abused rarely understand. They don’t know what to say to you when they first hear your story – but that’s okay. In this day and age we have the gifts of technology and social media to find others who do understand.
So, if you’re feeling alone, start searching. Start with simple terms like “child abuse recovery” or “domestic violence survivor” and you’ll quickly see that there are more people like you than you could’ve ever imagined. There is more support out there for you than you could possibly know.
